American Music History:  Vintage Reynolds Emperor Trombone Model 15 designed for flexibility, fine tone quality and beautifully balanced scale. Nickel silver slide (serial # 78422) with chrome plated finish is correctly proportioned for fast action and durability. One-piece slide with drawn stockings. This deluxe model is equipped with a  7 ½ inch “Silver-Flare” bell 500” bore which reads “Reynolds Emperor, Cleveland, Ohio”, has the RMC Shield, and the classic Reynolds “R” counterweight and is trimmed in nickel silver for rich appearance.  This piece has some cosmetic dings, dents and surface wear (see photos) and includes a case with marching band music holder attachment.  It plays well.
This trombone marks the end of an era for Reynolds and is one of the last of their great Ohio made horns!  Reynolds trombones made in Cleveland were extremely well made instruments. The Emperor model was designed for the advanced musician who needed a moderately priced high quality instrument.
In conjunction with the premiere of Warner Bros.’ motion picture, Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” (1962), RMC/Reynolds sponsored “The Music Man Contest” for individual musicians between ages 8-18, with national, regional and local award winners. “Official Music Man” models of the brass-bell Emperor trumpet, cornet and trombone were produced in conjunction with the contest.
